The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County serves our communities with a Main Library, six Branch Libraries and a Bookmobile.  The library employees 65 full and part time library staff.

The library is seeking flexible and energetic candidates for the Assistant Director position.  As part of the management team, the chosen candidate will provide assistance and support to the Director in managing, directing and coordinating library operations and staff.  The Assistant Director maintains responsibility for Adult Services at the Main Library and substitutes in the absence of the Director.

The Assistant Director supervises and schedules circulation and children’s desk activities and services, and assists with materials selection, collection development, and weeding for the adult collection.  Duties also include supervising and assisting Branch Managers, interacting with customers on various problems and liaisons with the collection agency.

The Assistant Director will participate in professional organizations and conferences, on committees as the library’s representative, as well as representing the library in the community. 

The ability to work days, evenings and weekends as well as a willingness to provide library services outside the brick and mortar building is a requirement for this position.


ALA accredited MLS.  3 to 5 years library experience, including supervisory responsibilities and management training.  Diversified library background, including automation and electronic resources.  Varied reading interests. Membership in professional organizations desirable.
