PLSJ Board of Trustees Award Rebid for Main Library's ADA Project

Wednesday, December 20, 2017

On Tuesday, Trustees of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County awarded the rebid for the Main Library’s Americans with Disabilities Act project to VendRick Construction of  Brookfield, Ohio.

Library Director Alan Hall said VendRick submitted the lowest rebid of $3,716,800 for the project.  “The Ohio Revised Code requires public projects to be awarded to the lowest bidder,” explained Hall.  The original bidding took place in October with bids coming in 10 percent higher than the architects projected which requires public projects to rebid.  Hall continued to say that he and Library Building & Grounds Supervisor Bob DiBenedetto then worked closely with the architects to  revise the plans.  “One of the ways we cut costs for the project was removing jobs from the general contractor to management by the library which will enable us to hire local businesses,” he said.

Hall said he is looking forward to working with VendRick Construction.  “We are confident in the company’s extensive experience to move the project forward to completion.  Vendrick’s project profile includes work with Ohio public libraries, Ashtubula County District Library in 2016 and Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, ” said Hall.

The 10,000 square-foot project will likely begin in January with demolition of the garage and reference department and the additions to follow.  The two-story addition will compliment and connect to the building.  New entrance to the building will be at street level on Slack Street.  The addition will include a meeting room, new computer room, and new children’s area.

The Bookmobile continues to serve area residents every Wednesday in the parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
