Main Library ADA Project To Rebid

Wednesday, October 25, 2017

The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County’s Main Library ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) project is going out for rebidding which will add a few weeks to the project but save the library money in costs.

“The rebidding process will add a few weeks to the initial startup of the project’s construction,” said Library Director Alan Hall.  “The bids came in more than the architects projected.  The Ohio Revised Code states public projects that exceed 10% of the architects estimated costs must go out for rebid,” he said.  Hall went on to explain that the architects projected the project to be 3.4 million and the lowest bid came in at 4.4 million.  Library trustees met with Dan Engen and Adam Cummins of VEBH (Valentour, English, Bodnar, & Howell) Architects of Pittsburgh at Tuesday’s October 24 meeting to review  plans and make necessary cuts to lower costs.  “One of the ways the library will be able to reduce costs is by independently contracting some of the jobs instead of contracting jobs through a general contractor,” said Hall.

The library will advertise for the  rebidding in November.  Library trustees are scheduled to meet in December to review the rebids.  The Main Library is scheduled to close on October 27.  “The rebidding will not postpone the closing.”  said Hall.  The project is moving forward.  During the rebidding process, the library will begin the asbestos abatement job and perform other tasks needed before construction starts.

The Bookmobile will make weekly stops at the Main Library’s parking lot on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting November 1.
